Williams, Bafana, Downs nominated for prestigious Caf Awards

South Africa dominates the 2024 Confederation of African Football (Caf) Awards that will take place on December 16 in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Mzansi has been nominated in nine categories; Bafana Bafana and their coach Hugo Broos have are among the candidates. The National team had a good year whereby they finished third in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

It explains why the Belgian has been nominated for the Coach of the Year Award alongside Emerse Fae who helped the hosts win the biennial competition.

Ronwen Williams nominated in three categories

Bafana Bafana captain and Mamelodi Sundowns Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was nominated for the Men’s Player of the Year Award after a starring role in helping South Africa win Afcon Bronze and Masandawana for claiming the inaugural African Football League.

He has also been named in the Goalkeeper of the Year category and the Caf Inter-Club Player of the Year.

Teboho Mokoena Evidence Makgopa Mothobi Mvala and Sipho Chaine Bafana Bafana

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goalkeeper Andile Dlamini has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year Award with Banyana Banyana being included in the Women’s National Team of the Year category.

Bafana Bafana have been nominated for the Men’s National Team of the Year while defending Premier Soccer League champions Sundowns have been nominated for the Caf Club of the Year Award.

Men’s Coach of the Year: Emerse Fae (Ivory Coast), Sebastien Desabre (DR Congo), and Hugo Broos (South Africa).

Women’s Team Coach of the Year: Lamia Boumehdi (TP Mazembe), Ahmed Ramadan (FC Masar), Mohamed Amine Alioua (AS FAR) and Thinasonke Mbuli (UWC).

Women’s Caf Inter-Club Player of The Year: Lacho Flora Marta (TP Mazembe), Doha El Madani (AS FAR), and Sanaa Mssoudy (AS FAR)

Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year: Andre Onana (Cameroon / Manchester United), Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast / SCO Angers), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/ Mamelodi Sundowns).

Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year: Khadija Er-Rmichi (AS FAR), Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC), and Andile Dlamini (Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies)
